Photo taken at Tashilhunpo Monastery (founded in 1447) in Shigatse, southwest of Lhasa and Tibet's second largest city. This was the only monastery we saw on our journey and one of only a handful left in Tibet after the invasion and the Cultural Revolution left untouched. Between 1950 and 1980 over 6,000 monasteries were destroyed. Some are in various stages of reconstruction.
